Currently Reading: Slaughterhouse Five by Kurt Vonnegut
UPDATE: Two entries ago I discussed my sincere regret for not updating my blog more, followed by a promise to continue updating - and then total and complete radio silence. SORRY. The update is that shortly after I made that post I was offered a job as a Temp at The Art Institute of Chicago. I sent my resume and cover letter in after the internship ended in August, thinking I simply wouldn't hear back. After an email exchange and brief phone interview I got placed with Development, and am finishing up my third week here!
The department I work for does a whole range of things, including membership upkeep and maintaining relationships with the donors that help to keep the museum running. I have been doing a whole range of things, including mailings, typing, filing - but I also helped to do they layout for a donor report which involved some creativity and an artistic eye. I also had the fantastic opportunity to work two day trips that visited design studios and and ateliers around Chicago. The tours included private visits with artists at The Chicago Furniture Design Association, a tour of Holly Hunt Design, a gourmet lunch at Prairie Fire, a visit to the Morlen Sinoway atelier and a tour of private residence that Morlen designed and decorated. Let's just say it was the most beautiful home I've seen outside of Fallingwater. Seriously. Their private art collection alone makes my mouth water. Ed Ruscha, Andy Warhol, Robert Rauschenberg - and those are just some of the artists. Their photography collection is out of this world as well.
So that's what I've been up to. Hanging around AIC, taking bus trips, still unpacking, reading, and getting dressed up for work. I think it's time that I splurge and buy myself a much needed tri-pod for posts such as these. Anyone have any recommendations?
