Missed Connection Meetup

For those of you who have been following my tumblr and my twitter, you will know full well that I posted a missed connection about three weeks ago. I posted after attending a really great art opening/discussion/food tasting as part of The Salon Series featuring the artist Mike Nudelman. And though I didn't actually talk to the guy, I felt an urge to make a posting to see if I could get into touch with him. My posting went basically unanswered - and then to my surprise, this past Monday I received an email from a JC, the organizer and creator of The Salon Series. He let me know that he'd figured out that I'd posted the missed connection and that he knew who I had posted it about - offering to put us in touch. Me and the guy sent some emails back and forth, and decided to meet for coffee this afternoon.

Of course the first thing that came to my mind was WHAT SHOULD I WEAR?! I wanted to wear something simple, slightly sophisticated, and well, "me". I wanted this meeting to be casual, comfortable, and as unawkward as possible. I picked up these great comfy harem pants last week at Anthropologie and have sort of been living in them since. As you know, I'm a big fan of horizontal stripes, and this outfit just sort of worked. Though I would've loved for my outfit to do the talking for me, I owned up to the challenge of meeting a complete stranger. And all in all, I think it went really well!!!

He is my age and incredibly nice. We both admitted to not being dog people, we both have never owned our own pet, we both took Chinese in high school and college, we both like Chungking Express, we both love to travel, and we both love to cook. Though the conversation lulled at moments I found it easy to toss questions back and forth. It was super fun, totally random, and a really great experience. I felt Miranda July would have approved of this entire encounter.

So here's to new friends, nice weather, and one-too-many cups of coffee!

Top: Loehman's

PS None of this would have been possible if it wasn't for JC Steinbrunner and The Salon Series. If you are looking for something amazing to do in the city of Chicago and love to look at art and talk about it while eating delicious food - this is for you. Please check out JC's upcoming event featuring artist Lara Miller.
