Make: 1

Untitled

Outside of the "It's Gonna be May" Internet trolling, today marks the beginning of May and with the month of May comes Make Month. Emma of Make 365 and Side Dish has declared it Make Month, a month of daily making, of maintaining awareness, of taking everything as inspiration, and in turn, making something of it and of yourself.

make

1  [meyk]  Show IPA
verb (used with object), made, mak·ing.
1.
to bring into existence by shaping or changing material, combining parts, etc.: to make a dress; to make a channel; to make awork of art.
2.
to produce; cause to exist or happen; bring about: to make trouble; to make war.
3.
to cause to be or become; render: to make someone happy.
4.
to appoint or nameThe president made her his special envoy.
5.
to put in the proper condition or state, as for use; fix; prepare: to make a bed; to make dinner.

In 2013, inspired simply by the verb make, Emma assigned herself the task of Make 365, making something every single day, and blogging about it. Over the course of her year, she made soup, she fixed things, she made paintings, she exhibited a show at New Wave, she applied to graduate school in library science, and moved to Austin to pursue said graduate degree in library science. To name a few just a few of her makes. Her year of making was such an inspiration to me that I've found myself forging my own path in a way that I couldn't have anticipated just a few months ago. Kudos to Emma!

And on that note, let the making begin. Make breakfast, make flower crowns, make a Youtube video, make love, make photos, make paintings, make banana bread with all of those brown bananas in your freezer, make lists (lots of lists), make soap, make veggie broth, make art, make dinner, make all of the things.

I'll be making something every single day this month, and will be posting on Edie and Andy as well as Side Dish. Follow along, participate, and make! Today, I made breakfast. A sesame bagel with salmon cream cheese, vine ripened tomatoes, capers, and a piping  hot cup of black coffee.
